Still no computer although I got word that I should be getting it back by Saturday so that's a plus. In the mean time I've been working on art assets for future chapters. No use being idle, right~?

ReplyDeleteJust throwing this out here because I don't know where else. But I downloaded the game and a good portion of the text isn't appearing. Nothing in the load up screen nor when you hit esc to access the menu in game. The in-game dialogue is there though.

ReplyDeleteAmazing game, I love the graphics and music. Just finished playing it to the end of the prologue. Such a cliffhanger, so excited for the rest of the game. Kind of short on any hentai scenes though.

ReplyDeleteI was playing the game and was looking at how the relationship meter works, so here's a question I just thought about. Is this going to be a harem or a relationship game? Because if it's a one-on-one type deal, then I wouldn't want to accidentally raise the relationship bar with a different girl than the one I'm going for in my first playthrough (because I'm a completionist and will try and max everything my first run through the game) and get locked into that character because I maxed them first somehow.
ReplyDeleteThe idea I'm fiddling around with does in involve harems, but not one complete get EVERY girl harem. It's more like, get all the miko girls or all the imperial girls. You can get some to switch sides and some are inherently neutral like a couple of the spirits you run into.
DeleteSo... are you going to make the ones that can switch sides only able to do so in a NG+ after you have already wooed them once in a previous run or will they be able to switch sides from the get go? Because that would definitely add replay value, seeing the story with the girls on one side plus the neutrals, then seeing it again with you switching over whoever is eligible.
DeleteAlso, since this seems to borrow elements from Suikoden (the recruiting system basically only with the ability to choose which side in the war) will those "neutral" characters just not be recruited if you miss them, or will the opposing side pick them up? It'd be really interesting to see different playthroughs where some of your characters got picked up by the enemy recruiters if you do it that way. (Although that would add more coding and eventing on your end so it might not be worth it in the end...)

ReplyDeleteAlso wanted to throw in a quick shout out that so far the female characters seem a lot more interesting than most anime women, especially in titles like this. Actually the dialogue in general has been really solid. So kudos for that.
Also random question since I got curious, is Dryden's mom going to be a romance option? They way you drew her kind of implied she would, but couldn't really tell.
Anime women... I find very disheartening. They're often trivialized and dumbed down either to fit some stupid warped ideology of the ideal women or done that way so they don't overshadow Male Characters. My favorite example is Naruto. The teams always have two guys and a girl as the weakest character. Even when Sakura got a upgrade she was still useless. One Piece, a series that I actually enjoy quite a bit makes many of the same mistakes which is a shame because otherwise it'd probably be my all time favorite.
DeleteAs for Dryden's Mom. Yes, although it won't be the typical romance for obvious reasons. Dryden's life is going be become somewhat more complicated by the end of the next chapter.

ReplyDeleteWow. I just finished a playthrough of the demo version and I'm *very* impressed. The characters are unique and interesting. The dialogue is snarky and witty. Combat is classic but effective. (Some tweaking of the difficultly/character lvl ratio might be necessary though. As is the game demands grinding. This is old school and not necessarily bad, just a design choice). The art is crisp and refreshingly unique. Stats and skills are detailed and worth pursuing. Exploring is rewarding, if slightly tedious (maze-like lvl design and hidden passages in wall-space). The plot in the demo isn't earth-shattering but has strong hooks that lead me to want to know MORE. There is a lot of potential here.
ReplyDeleteThere are obvious recycled 3rd party assets (especially the music yay chrono trigger, ff, etc) but if you don't mind that this restricts you from presenting this as a retail project then it's not an issue as the quality is already there.
Really... I loved it. The quality here is better than some "AAA" games that I've played. I came looking for h-scenes and left wanting the RPG elements. (Well, those romances need to be progressed too)! To my understanding you're independently wealthy and uninterested in donations, but this is one game I would support. Sadly, with my restricted free time I can't contribute any elbow grease either, so I'll join the crowd of patiently waiting fans. Please keep developing!
Yeah. don't have all the resources to create my all my own music and systems. But I originally started this as a way to pass free time and I really enjoy it. Several people have mentioned being willing to pay money for it, but as you mentioned, my us of third party assets means I can't in good conscious do that.
DeleteThey also mentioned crowd funding as well which I actually did consider briefly. But while I'm not a huge fan of companies there are also enough resources from small scriptors basement DJs, and pixel artists where I'd just be a huge asshole if I made money of something they worked so hard on for sheer enjoyment. Also, I'm crap with finances and money management might even have the opposite of the intended effect. Slowing me down, or encouraging me to rush out a crappier product as I feel obligated to those who contributed financially.
And it's not so much that I'm independently wealthy as I just have a good job. I'll never buy a plane, but I don't have to check my bank account if I want to splurge and a new PS4 o r Xbox1 either. *Thank you union* I honestly wish the job market wasn't so viley skewed as it is, but I could talk your ear off on that topic.

ReplyDeleteNah, I don't think you need to worry, he's only been gone a month after all. these things take time, especially if he's studying/working besides this. Though it would of course be nice to hear from him and maybe get another time estimate. Last we heard was the he was about 75% done during early December, so unless something very unexpected happened, it should be close to release. I'll mention again, that if you need help with anything, I'd be happy to help out.
