Weekly update~ Woohoo. Okay so last week has been about organization. Those who cracked open the demo probably noticed there was crap everywhere. I basically put almost everything I could find and thought maybe I might one day perhaps use in the game. There was like three copies of the charset DrydenCharacter. wtf me... wtf.

So I'm reorganizing it. Should make it a tad faster while eventing as well now that I don't have to search through multiple instances of the same thing to find what I'm look for.

Also I'm redoing charsets for BaoShon and Ryo. One is done, one is almost down. You guy's may have noticed that the charset didn't really match the face set. Well there was a good reason for that. I couldn't pixal art when I started on this.... like at all. Seriousally. My attempts looked like a 2 year old gummed a lego piece for three hours, then spat it into his lucky charms.

Redid the charset for imperial guards as well because it was resized from a 32x32 spite that didn't even match the battler. charsets are great. I can do them at work which saves me tons of time.

  2. Yeah. I noticed the thing with the charsets and random images. Took me a couple playthroughs to figure out I couldnt gwt them in game.

  5. Played through the prologue and I love the game, the story is very well done and it's very different from a number of the other RPG Maker games I've played. Looking forward to more.

    1. Yeah it is. But he never really seemed to use the sword on the back his old sprite. So getting rid of that was probably a good idea too.

  8. When you mentioned multiple charsets for Dryden, the first thing to pop into my head was: Will Dryden's appearance charge to reflect his personal development?

I mean he goes from being a bottom of the pile scavenger in a nowhere village, to catching the interest of his 'sister' and i'm assuming that he will gain wealth and respect as his travels. So will his appearance reflect that? When he gets dressed up for the ball will you be using a different charset and will he appear different afterwards?

I understand that it's not something that gets done very often in these kinds of games but I always thought that a character's image should change to reflect his position and mentality.

Anyways i'm sure whatever you do will be awesome so i am looking forward to seeing what you do. (also I think I've played the last release to death ^_^)

    1. Certain characters will change their appearance as time goes on, or for unique events. I was originally planning a sub-class system but that is unfortunately not enough pay off for the amount of work involved. Since I've have to redo all the events for ever single outfit.

So yeah. Characters will change, but it will be controlled by the plot, not the player unfortunately.

    2. That's what I was hoping for so no need to apologize. I do know that I am very much looking forward to finding out the story as I play. Keep up the awesome work and while this has probably been asked before; will you be accepting donations when the game comes out? While I don't say no to free... anything really I do like rewarding those who go above and beyond, which so far you have.

    3. I don't accept donations because I use too many third party scripts that are not available for commercial use. And donations/crowdfunding seems like a sleezy way to bypass non commercial usage agreements. Which thanks to my current job I am extremely mindful of. That being said if you got a few extra coins I can point you to the direction of Gubid.

He is the coder that made the tactical battle system for VX, ACE, and XP engines and is making some of the ACE feature reverse compatable which is stupidly difficult thanks to differences in rgss2/3 framework. You can check it out here.

donation button is on the bottom for anyone interested.

    4. Speaking of the battle system you have had any news of the one you ordered last time you posted that there had been no contact yet

    5. Actually I did maybe 1... 2 months ago? He was in a middle of the move and apparently had to gut parts of the original system and redo them. Plus he's got a full family too. I'll bug him again in another month or two to see how things are going.

  9. Found the game very interesting I got to the end and was surprised by how when I got attacked by the guard and he fled that he was wounded fatally.

I wonder.......there's a command that scares away the enemy if you use that does he survive? Or is the death and backlash scripted regardless of whether you use that action or not?

    1. The guard dies regardless of what you do, that bit doesn't change. But what you do does effect other characters and unlocks a sidequest. *just one at the moment* Can't give you anymore details without spoilers though.

    2. I was wondering about that, but never remembered to use it in the 2nd playthrough. Then I figured that if it *was* going to do anything it would show itself in the full game but probably not the demo. Damn, now I have to go back and see.

  10. Oh, and a thought I had - If you do this game to completion, (PLEASE do) then you could probably do like SWGabe is with Opala and do a kickstarter type deal where you start a project and could possibly get paid to make another game rather than have to split time between gamemaking and work.

    1. That one I am going to have to give a definative no on. neither Gabe or I are very fast with our games. More people would require a project head which I don't trust either of us on. And it's very easy for a person to disappear due to circumstance when there's no real connection other than the internet.

In other words, I'm more likely to work on a game with Gabe using my own money rather than risk other peoples.

Plus kick starter wouldn't have the kickass benefits I got.

    3. LOL. Could you imagine Rin trying to conquer egypt?

Rin: alright. So we've attacked the castle, now we have to capture the royals. You up for that?
Dryden: What are you? High. You've seen the panther right.
Rin: Osira doesn't have a panther.
Dryden: And yet she still has a pussy that will eat me alive.
      Rin: Farah?
Dryden: I tried stripping her to kinda get the upper hand in the fight, buuuut that kinda backfired. Anyway I woke up with a hairline fracture in my pelvis. Lady Yin says I'm gonna be limping to adult hood... then she just glared at me.

  11. Just thought I'd mention that I wasn't suggesting you work on a game *with* Gabe, but rather do like he is with the new Opala and do the offbeater thing. Although that obviously isn't happening.

As for working *with* Gabe... My feelings on it? I liked the Opala games, I really did. So far they're the best in the genre that I've played. (Complete, mind you. There have been demos of better things that ended up officially dying.) But the game felt more like me grinding for porn rather than gaming and porn happened to be there. It didn't feel like a game first, porn included. It felt like porn first, leveling mandatory. And the characters stats- battles were boring because it was just attack, and the same special over and over. Even when you got magic, you couldn't use it because it did no damage at all compared to the special attacks due to the insanely high mag def of the monsters (or low mag attack of the characters) the magic may as well not have been in the game. When you're using a game with poor graphics like rpgmaker games have, you need to provide variety. That wasn't done. Still, it was the best completed game of the genre that I have had the pleasure of playing, and as such deserves much credit. But in all honestly the feel of your demo makes me think that this will be better, simply because it will feel like a game first, porn second. And that's what I've been looking for the entire time.

    1. Now that I'm thinking about it, I believe (and this is obviously just my personal unfounded theory) part of the problem is in the approach. People think, I'm gonna make a hentai game! And make the hentai their priority, fun second. Rather, they should make a fun game, and add the hentai later. There's plenty of opportunity for sexual scenes/content in every vanilla RPG out there. If you can make a fun game, it's easy to add the sex. But making a bunch of sex does not a good game make.

  12. Here's something I've been wondering about... The upgrade system for whatever base you come to possess. Will it upgrade manually or automatically, or a mixture of both?

    Examples:

Suikoden was automatic. As you gained characters they added to the base. Also as you passed certain numerical thresholds, entire floors/sections became remodeled/un-blocked/etc.

Many other games (first that comes to mind is AC: Brotherhood) have you manually upgrade the base with in-game cash. A very few mix and match, with certain characters adding to the base but still requiring cash to upgrade from the very minimum they have to do for story purposes to the very best they can with good materials and supplies.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Definately be mixed. Some upgrades will be done through optional tasks, like clearing out monsters so you have more room to build, some stuff will definitely require money. and of course there'd be a bunch of standard automatic upgrades.

    2. Bro. I feel for you man. But there's just one small problem. You are now essentially a drug dealer and you've stopped providing us with the product. I'm going through withdrawl here. I know its not an easy product to get. But PLEASE help us.

P.S. sorry to hear you're having problems mate. I hope it gets better for you. I do want you to finish but I don't want you to burn out in the process.

    1. I've taken the habit of just posting some random piece of unrelated art when I make a blog entry. You could even just post scraps/failed pieces. Since it's purpose is just to spice up the post it shouldn't really matter what it is.

Regardless if you post art or not, it's nice just to have a simple heads up either way.

Your hard work is appreciated! ^_^
