I lol'd at the comments on the last post. You guys are hilarious. Anyway, figured I'd do a quick post to say two things. A: Main quest is done, which leaves the side quests and art assets to iron out and of course there will be beta testing to do afterwards. 2: Work on this will slow down for a bit because of some major dental work which is causing a fair degree of pain plus the painkillers make me wanna sleep more. That'll be going on for about a month... Yeah I'm not looking forward to it either. Well, till next time then.

    1. Eh. I don't do hard deadlines because stuff always changes. When I started chapter one I was hoping to finish last April... That did not happen. It is still looking like I'll finish before the year is over though. But again, that's purely an estimate. Still waiting on a system from the Scripter I commissioned too. Worst case scenario I'll just start getting ahead for the next chapter.

  3. May the dental problems melt away and leave you with a healthy and pain-free mouth. Both because it would be good for you and because it would be good for this game XD

  4. Dental work is no joke. Hope it turns out okay.

  5. Dental can be a real bitch. I've seen it happen to plenty of my co-workers. One little slip of the tools and your whole mouth is screwed up for a month or two. There's a part of me yelling "Noooooooooo!" inside, while the rest of me just nods my head in compassion, patiently waiting. Good to know that the main quest is done though. (Although I think side quests actually take *longer* if they're thorough. Mostly because there's only one main quest, and there can be a crap-ton of side quests.

  6. So. Dental, huh? Yeah. That sucks. I'm getting my "permanent" retainer out soon..... 4 years after they said it would come out. -_- Anywho, good to hear from you. Good luck on the recovery and the game progress.

    P.S. I WANNA BETA TEST!

  7. Sad to hear the dental stuff is still giving you a hard time, here's to a speedy recovery.
I'll ask again, is there anything you need help with besides coding and art assets? If there's anything I could help out with, I'd be happy to. Be it proofreading, minor edits, beta tester etc.
Anyway, good luck and get well soon

  12. I just finished the demo, and I have to say you did an awesome job with this game. Most of the games I found in the same genre cheep out on the art and story.

I'm really looking forward to the next release

    1. Nope never played. I remember when I was interested in it, it was way to difficult to get into. That and I think the religious side of my family believed it to be a tool from the devil. XD.

    2. Lolz. And now you're working on an H-game about a kid in a skeleton costume who visits the "underworld". so how did THAT endeavor work out for them? Besides, D&D is awesome.

    3. And might possibly have an inscestuous relationship with his dead sister. Wow. ^_^ FYI, awesome game.

    4. Huh. Surprising since you have such a good way of telling a story. I was drawn into it from the very start, which is hard to do for beginners. Not bat. And yeah, didn't you know? ALL things are the devil! (I was raised in a Jesus-cult that wanted us to live without making use of any modern tech.)

    5. Oh, right, almost forgot.

The other reason I asked the question was from reading your little note in the drawer on the second floor of the temple. The part about things becoming gods at a certain level. Reminded me of how in lots of D&D games/books/etc many of the "Gods" were once human. They were either granted divinity, earned it by becoming so powerful that they simply "changed", or took it by killing a God themselves and replacing them. Then when I saw how the level limit was above 100... I really hope you incorporate this in some way. Maybe with a New Game +++? Where after you have played through each faction on a single save file you can break the level limit and become a God that exists in multiple realities, allowing you to recruit characters that are normally locked into a certain faction, and then maybe having a special post end-game area where who knows what happens? Of course, it could have just been in there for the hell of it but... I like to think it was a clue of something to come.

And Rob, the sister thing seems like it's a given. What me and some of my co-workers are betting is whether the mother gets involved. Out of the 5 people in my shop (a bunch of US Air Force Comm guys) who play this, 3 say yes, two say no. I've got money on this bet!

    6. Actually I rather enjoyed studying religion with my church... Overall. I got lucky enough to study with a woman who was extremely well versed in other religions and history as well. Also she was rather candid about the mistakes her religion had made. I remember going over blood tranfusion alternatives. In addition to knowing what the alternatives and their advantages and disadvantages were. She knew details about the circulatory system I never did, Screening process pros and cons, recent advancements in tranfusion science, and when I asked her about partial transfusions like plasma she told me that I would have to research and decide for myself because that specific scenario wasn't covered by the bible. And I just remember thinking, damn that's an honest answer.

It's kind of ironic actually. On TV you see how religion can close peoples minds. For me it was the opposite effect. But then I had a pretty cool example to follow. Also they were quite respectful when I told them their way of life wasn't for me. I'm stuck too much in the material world.

As for story telling.I'm a huge anime and manga fan, spider-man, digimon, I've seen a ton of stuff. Good and bad, and I've manage to pick up a few things because of it. For example, stories can thrive off the characters. If you've got a character who is always going hysterical or is absolutely useless *Thank you Sakura from Naruto* Then every time you focus on them your just dragging the story down. There's also instance of characters being superficially defined. Again, I'll use Naruto as an example. Everytime the plot focuses in on one them they all act very identical in a rather shounen type manner. May of the villians also have similiar motivations in that they all just needed a hug. The Kyuubi, Gaara, the on and off Sasuke thing. I get that love is a basic human need, but it shouldn't be the only need. When you keep rehashing the same characters over and over again the plot goes stale. Other stuff is just common sense. I actually dislike Gurren Lagaan because the plot was retarded. You knew everything you needed to know by the first episode, and then at the end the killed 90% of the plot characters at once. Both are bad arc styles and if your not angling for a tragedy plot they should be avoided. Code Geass killed maybe 3 important characters. And I still remember every one of them six years later. Every one had a purpose and dramatically shifted the plot. That's doing it right. Then you have character developement. It's been a personal rule to start low and build up, or shift sideways. Don't go backwards. Otherwise you'll end up retreading. Spiderman and DBZ are actually the two most prominent examples of this to me. Spider-man has had some very bad retconning with the one more day arc. But earlier writing and even the new learning to crawl mini is a good example of side shift development. Every victory brings new problems, and sometimes big losses can lead to fortunate resolutions. DBZ is the same battle arc every time. It's a damn cool one mind you, but I can only watch the same thing so many times before I need a new spin on it.

    7. My idea for how gods work is something that came about when I tried to process how a forth dimension would be represented. In physics it's pocket dimensions but usually I use time when writting fantasy or sci-fi plots. You have to fold the previous three dimensions into a point to add a forth, so that point would be a point in time, then you have a time line line, ect. So something that exists in more than 3 dimensions would be too massive in scope to be killed. I used that as the guideline for a true god in my game. Lol, I actually got the idea off a documentary. XD. I am suprised to see some of the other ideas used in D&D, I guess good ideas are bound to be used more than once.

As for the newgame plus. I have a method of doing it that doesn't conflict with your idea, but I haven't thought past the first + yet. I don't want to give to much away but I'm sure you'll enjoy it. In regards to the mother, you'll just have to wait and see. Cheers.

    8. Ok ok ok. You are officially awesome. be my friend. Seriously... im a pastors kid and the only person I know with those kind of view points are my dad. And he just come close... I miss meeting smart people.

    9. Haha... I agree Rob, smart people are hard to find. Well, *open minded* smart people I should say. Like Mr. Sewell here, religion opened my mind. Being stuck in a cult from a young age until I was old enough to move out of my Mom's house made me see how being close-minded is... dangerous. Too many people I know are like my mother, smart on everything *except* religion.

Mr. Sewell, thanks for not spoiling about the mom. As much as I want to win my bet, I hate spoilers! Even when I'm asking a question, it's usually just meant to get the person I'm talking to thinking, unless it's something general that doesn't tell me too much about whatever I'm asking. After all, with a new game, being surprised is half the fun!

And I like what you said about character death. I never looked at it quite that way. As for Sakura being annoying and useless, if I remember right I read somewhere that the author didn't really like her as a character and intended to toss her aside, which certainly explains her lack of "character" and growth unlike some of the others in the series. Unfortunately people didn't think he should do that with any member of the "original three" and talked him out of it.
