Alright so progress has been a little slow this week but I have a horrible reason I promise. I got evil within and borderlands... and regret nothing.

As for what I have actually been doing game wise. I'm been tweaking out the quest shop inherited in Modern Algebra's quest journal system so I can use it to dispense quests. *thank the lord he included examples*

But yeah. Getting rid of some of the ugly icons, taking out the gold display since they're all free. I think I got it to a good spot, so right now I just have to integrate the quests with main story and each other which is... not going to be fun in all honesty.

But yeah figured you all deserved an update, cheers.

  1. I really like the fact that you have included a proper quest window for the game many rpg maker games usually resort to an item that gives some text as to what quests you got to do and yeah playing "the evil within" myself as well so i can completely understand the lack of progress XD

  2. Thanks for the update. No need to rush. Rec time is important for working stiffs like us. If you push too long and hard you'll burn yourself out.

So, does this mean that these "side-quests" will have an effect upon the story, to include little things like dialogue changes? Because if so you're right. That'll be hell to test.

    1. Indeed. I'm currently trying to juggle four quests that have the characters appear at different locations and it's kind of... bass ackwards. Fortunately I got some idea for an established format once you reach the main hub.

      Delete
    2. Kinda asking for a spoiler here but the main hub you mention is it going to be the village/town you have to build up yourself?

      Delete
    3. That would be nice, but I doubt it. I'm pretty sure that would be a coding nightmare. Hey, quick question, at any point will there be a furry love interest option (female of course)?

      Delete
    4. Well, if he's doing this a la Suikoden... Probably.

      Delete
    5. If so, just remember what Suikoden did. They didn't know just how advanced the "castle" would be whenever you unlocked certain scenes. So everything they scripted was made to happen in what would be a "clear" spot no matter what iteration of the castle you had. The only things that were made to happen in rooms that required the castle to be upgraded to a certain point were after it was impossible to not have that upgrade. Eases the amount of necessary flags.

      Delete
    6. The a la Suikoden part was in answer to whether the Main Hub was the town you build up yourself. But now that I think about it, it actually answers both points. Especially considering the Unicorn from the second game that needed a virgin girl to "marry" it in order to join your group...

      Delete
    7. Lol. Gotta love when things just work out right. But yeah, You make a great point about the castle thing. It would be sweet if there was a furry. As long as it's not a cock-tease like Latex in LoQO.

      Delete
    8. Could've sworn I already did this comment, but anyway...

I try to avoid cock-tease characters. I dislike them.

As for furies. They're okay. I still got a crush on Sally Acorn from sonic for crying out loud. I can tell you there's at least one. Maybe two. The second, I'm not sure on how I want to do her design yet so she might just end up looking human.

As for this weeks update.... nadda. a storm took out my power, took out my window, and then cut me like a bitch. It's still not fixed. Should be tomorrow though. Cheers.

But I have to say I like the idea of having the hero have a double identity and you can switch between the two when you want the other Game I played Master of the Wind is similar but the switching identities is more linier. I would love you to also include some stuff like Diaries to help us see what some other characters view points of what they see the Bone Spirit as when they met him or on certain events.

It would be interesting to the next game post for this game.

The Regless boss isn't something/someone you just beat down. You simply use your "steal" skill to get back what he stole.

  9. ALso here's a thought I was wondering will the main character have to be in almost two places at once one as himself the other as the Bone spirt?

That would be a pretty funny event or maybe even one where he has to figure out a way so he and the Bone Spirit will make an appearance side by side. Like he suddenly realizes he just agreed to so with someone to where he already was going to go as the Bone Spirit to meet the Bone Spirit and for a moment his mind goes. "What the heck did I just agree to?"

    1. Dude. Thats just like an old episode of the batman animated series. Robin puts on stilts and the batman costume and is seen side by side with bruce wane. Its funny cuz before that the riddler had actually figured ot that batman was bruce wane and so when he saw that he freaked-the-fuck-out. It was awesome.

      Delete
    2. There are other shows and such that have used that their is a much older Batman live action series which was pretty good. Where the villians got bruce hostage and then he suddenly realized that he had to play both batman and the hostage at near the same time it was fun seeing him switch between the costumes awhile using the hidden passige ways through weign mannor to bypass and get to where batman and himself is suppost to be between fights.

Another one is good series I found an old black and white movies on The Green Hornet and the old show. Both are pretty good a guy who convinced the underworld he's a fictisious criminal Mastermind/crime boss taking over other criminal groups territories and even though he doesn't persue criminal activities he made such a good act everyone was convinced he controls crime in a large section of that city he lives in.

  10. Spoilers

Finished the prolog I have to say it's interesting. I do have to saw I did do that one quest involving saving the guard and here's one thing I do hope you include. After the attack and apparently our defeat have someone tell the guard that wanted to take some hits in to think about it. The Bone Spirit went out of it's way to save his life as well as to aid everyone get out. So why would it suddenly attack someone with no reason. And earlier the Guard was complaining about how the other guard simply turned and flead so if he met the Bone Spirit in such a panicked state it's possible he attacked the Bone Spirit and he wound up that way because of it.

It would be interesting if the Guard suddenly felt guilty later on about having the Miko attack the Bone Spirit.

Sorry this is just a very interesting game I hope you make another release soon.

    1. I had an idea about the guard as well... When I did the first playthrough, I defeated him and he ran off. But then when I saw later that he died of his wounds I figured there was a hidden event. So the next time through I defended the whole fight until he ran off. I never struck him. But he still died, and it still appeared that I had been the one to kill him. Strange. I had thought it would be like the fight with Dan in Xenogears. One where if you defend the whole fight a different event happens.

      Delete
    2. Maybe it could be used later? One of the hidden "paths" to an alternate game route where you join a different faction? Unless the choice is meant to be an obvious one instead of an event flag deal where the game counts up how many choices you've made that lean toward a certain faction and choose for you that way...

      Delete
    3. Or maybe a way to get the beginnings of your shrine like after the fact that he realized that he just backed up someone who abandoned them and likely attacked a spirit that saved his life and helped them get away and he attacked an innocent spirit. So out of guilt he makes a shrine small or helps to make one for the Bond Spirit.

      Delete
    4. Or... you know... it could just be a side-quest or blurb/comment by a character on the side... just a thought....

      Delete
    5. Well, I was figuring it would be one of those "one of many" flags. Not a singular important step. Just a hidden flag that aided when attempting to lean in a particular direction later.

      Delete
    6. Kind of like the old relationship system in FFVII, many actions would give points to various girls, and whoever had the most points was your date in the Golden Saucer. Only in this case the points would be added up determining which side you chose. Hence the "Unless the choice is meant to be an obvious one..." in the earlier message.

      Delete
    7. You got it Cloud. There's a bunch of hidden flags you can trigger during quests to help out in passive ways with characters further down the road, or even unlock some additional quests eventually. Also a Christmas release is doable. I've mentioned before I don't like release dates because stuff changes often and quickly. But atm that is what I am aiming for.

      Delete
    8. Doable huh? I like it! It's not a promise by any means, but as you said, life can do anything. Even without life interfering, some days you just want to do you stuff and not game stuff. So it could be postponed. But just hearing that a Christmas release is "doable" tells me how close you are to completion of part 1.

  11. So, let's talk about Rance!

I think the game designers made a mistake with Leila.

According to the lore I'm pretty sure all cute girls belong to Rance, so I don't understand how she is attracted to rick.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Actually that's Rance's opinon.

That and also I think she's worked with him a long time. I have to say though despite how much Rance mentally and physically goes on how he dislikes Rick and says that Leila is his he doesn't interfere much with the relationship it's like deep down in a place he would never admit (next to admitting he actually love Sil) he thinks of Rick as a friend.

    1. The "lore" comment I made was a joke. :(

I just played a bit of Kichikuou Rance, and seeing the scene where he calls Leilla over to him.

She says, "Can you hurry Rance? I have a date with Rick."

      Rance gets immediately jealous

Rance:All day you need to help me hunt hanny's!

Leila: You just thought that up!

Rance: No, I've wanted to do it for a while now!

Rick:... it's an order from the King. We can do this another time.

Leila:.. fine. Let's go, your majesty.

Rance: ... No. The hunt has been cancelled. Do whatever you want.

Leila: Thanks Rance, come on Rick.

Don't remember it word for word, but that's the gist of it.
Seeing that scene, I'm really impressed with Rance. Even if the game was retconned, what a scene.

Dryden without bone spirit is weak because he was malnourished by a neglecting and miserable mom.

On his journey he will get tougher. So yes.

    2. Ummmm. I think you have it wrong. IIt'snpt hos moms fault he's malnourished. Last I checked it was the empires fault for charging unreasonable taxes. His mom actually tries really hard, specially considering his dad's comatose.

    3. P.S. im pretty sure no one with tits as mammoth in size as her mammaries could ever be a malnourishing mom. Those tits just ooze maternity.... or maybe it's milk.... *tastes* .... my bad... it was milk.

    5. Sorry screwed up a phrase, here it os fixed.

But still... no one with such huge honkers, such great gazongas, such mammoth mammaries, such titanic tits, such gigantic jugs, such oversized oppai, such large lactic liquidators, such tremendous tatas, collosal chesticles, bountiful boulders, fantastic front fenders, humongous headlights, oppulent orbs, magnificent mountains, gargantuan globes, etc... could ever be a bad mother...

And yes... that was just an excuse for me to type up a ton of names for big breasts.

      Delete
    6. I'm gonna break the levity and say that huge brested women can indeed be bad mothers... But Dryden's isn't one of them. From what we've seen thus far. She just has too much on her plate to handle. Anonymous just doesn't realize how hard it is to provide food in the type of setting they're in.

No supermarkets to buy food means you have to hunt. The local market can only stock so much, since without refrigeration, meat goes bad quickly. Even with the store having some stock, the family is broke.

With dad out of work, and mom stuck taking care of him, she can't get much work herself. Leaving the kids. There is no unemployment in these times. No other aid of any sort except the kindness of random people. Which isn't much. And with the animals being gone, (as shown by Dryden's surprise when he sees the pig Regless has) there's basically a famine underway. Without trucks and planes to ship food long distances? There just isn't much available.

      Delete
    7. Aren't the punishments his mother puts him through worse than the jailing the guards put on him?

      Delete
    8. In *his* mind, they are. But those punishments are never mentioned explicitly so we don't know what they are. All he says is he'd rather go to jail that have them tell his mother. And what does she do when she'd told? She looks at him with disappointment and (once dinner is actually ready) lets him eat, even though he failed to bring home any meat.

He hates her knowing because of the emotions involved. Not because she beats him with a metal pole or anything. Where are you getting abuse of some kind from? Because that's what you're implying. What we are shown is no different from a kid in school who would rather have detention than have his mom know he got in trouble. Not because he has an abusive parent, but because he can't deal with their disappointment.

And frankly, punishment for misbehaving has nothing to do with his malnourishment which is what you brought up originally.

      Delete
    9. Also, you're the only one who says that he's malnourished. That doesn't explain the difference in his power when wearing the bones. He isn't an actual spirit... he has no special powers as of yet... he should physically be no different when wearing the bones as he is with them off. This is likely just a game mechanic so that you don't go fighting things in "Dryden" form rather than "Bone Spirit" form. I know I tried it, just to see if I could. Doing so could potentially do crazy things to the story however, since Dryden is supposed to be a wise cracker... not a warrior. And later on, you don't want to be killing empire soldiers in human form, you want to do so as the Bone Spirit. Morale, and other things come from that.

      Delete
    10. To expand the malnourished bits...

The game *never* says that anyone in town is malnourished. It says that *lately* or *recently* there's been a lack of food. It takes a lot longer that "lately" or "recently" for malnourishment to set in. And if you're calling him malnourished simply because he's such a short, scrawny guy who gets picked on by girls... Have you ever gone outside? There's short scrawny people all over! That doesn't imply malnourishment, rather that he isn't your typical big, strong, hero. Which is what Regless was going for if you look at the humorous tone of the story thus far. He was going for a "non-typical" hero. Not a Harry Potter clone who happens to tell better jokes and have sex.

      Delete
  21. Err, I'm not the only guy who said he was malnourished. Regless said it in a stream moons ago.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Also, to comment on your long winded speech of angry accusations, wow...

      He mentions harsh punishments.

Regless said in a stream he was malnourished.

His mom is neglectful because shes losing her mind in the situation shes in.

My god, I don't think I've ever made a comment that got someone so riled up in a while...

      Delete
    2. Riled up? Lol. Nah, that's my normal debate/argument/whatever tone.

As for Regless saying it in a stream... okay. Could easily miss that just by not being there. Thought you were getting this from the game and was like, wtf? Where is this coming from?

Neglectful was a given, considering the current circumstances. Didn't argue that point. Only the punishment/malnourished. Still, harsh is different than abusive. You didn't *say* abusive, but it seemed implied. And malnourished, now that it is apparently a thing, still fits with the whole "famine" thing. It's not like she's eating much herself. They all had watery stew. So I wouldn't call it abuse... just horrible circumstances adding up to a bad situation altogether.

      Delete
    3. It's what I hate about this type of communication... I tend to use harsh wording, but when talking in person my vocal tones and body language negate it, allowing a person to tell when I'm actually "riled up" and when I'm not. Text, it doesn't carry over so well. Especially since we don't write ourselves talking as if we were writing a book. Like:

      To expand the malnourished bits...

"The game *never* says that anyone in town is malnourished." James stated emphatically. "It says that *lately* or *recently* there's been a lack of food. It takes a lot longer that "lately" or "recently" for malnourishment to set in." His expression much like that of a teacher lecturing in front of a class.

Because we lack these emotional queues in or talk with each other, emotion has to be assumed. However with differing brains and emotional hot spots in each person... Problems.

      Delete
    4. Still, even with the malnourishment, that doesn't explain the strength difference just due to being in different form. Even completely unequipped, the Bone Spirit form has higher stats than the Twerp form. This is still likely due to game mechanics.

      Delete
    5. I didnt say abuse, because Regless in a stream specifically told me shes not abusive. but rather on the breaking point of a mental snap. She's neglectful because of the circumstances we agree here, I thought I read something about the guards empathizing with his harsh punishments, I guess I can see why you thought I was implying abuse, and i guess in a metaphorical sense it is, but no, she's not abusive, just kind of losing it.

Regless loosely said in the stream when someone asked about his low hp value, that he will explain its malnourishment and provide players the ability to raise its value. It's only 'pseudocanon' because he said so and he could quickly retcon it because he hasn't implemented it in the game yet, though granted I can't prove it to you unless he reads over this and says it. I think he also said this poor diet happened even before the famine, around the time his father went ill.

It just seems like your angry at me from those other two posts.

      Delete
    6. Eh, like I said, I do tend to use harsh wording. I usually think about it after the fact and go back and edit my posts so that they read less... aggressive. However here you can't edit. Only delete and post again. And with how many edits to a single post I usually have to do to make it sound more "debate" like and less "angry", there's be like 15 deleted posts. So I don't bother.

  22. it could be game mechanics, or it coulb be because the bones are magical, or maybe he is a shapeshifter now ... or maybe he is a spirit, really died when he fell, but he has 2 different sets of powers one of them, become flesh (as weak as he was) and in his normal bone spirit form is just more powerful...who know?

I don't think it's where Regless was going with it, but it's very good regardless. It would even explain how he got to his sister's realm. She is dead after all. 8. That would work... if Regless decides to go in that direction, if he hasn't already made a decision. But he's probably already got the story all mapped out. Still it would be interesting if that was where this was going the whole time. Him being dead and not even knowing.

      Delete
    9. i think he wasnt dead because of the pig, only unconscious
and the fact that he ended in the paper mansion is what made him become the bone spirit instead of dying

if you remember, when he falls on the bones, he said something about dislocating his jaw and being unable to move...who recovers from a dislocated jaw? i think he died there and we will find his corpse and discover he has been dead all around

    10. Self-aware undead do. Also if it's dislocated, then it can be relocated. It's just supposed to be super painful. Also he said he "thinks" he dislocated his jaw. 12. Robert has a point. A dislocation isn't like a break... You dislocated your arm? Pop it back, It's not hard to recover from, it just hurts like a bitch. I figured he was unconscious from the pig too, which is why that was a problem for me with him going to the spirit realm from it, him not being dead. But I could easily see him being dead from the fall. Although I doubt he'd find out from the pile of bones later if that was the case.

Why? Simple. There's bats, and other creatures that feed on meat in that cave. So his body will be eaten. There aren't any bone scientists (I forget the proper name at the moment) who can look at dead bones and tell you what race and such they belong to, let alone how old they've been dead. Not in these times. And with the animals eating the body, it'll have bite marks all over it making it even harder even if there had been. No, if he is dead, he'll have to find out some other way.

    13. Actually, thinking about it, it would make a lot of sense if the pig DIDN'T kill him and just made him unconscious. In the spirit world it was alluded to that he was not supposed to be there and had happened upon the place by mistake. Clever.

  24. As a heads up guys, if you've "dislocated" your jaw you are dead. No, really, look up curb stomp. Chances are it's just how he feels.

    1. Dislocations occur when two bones that originally met at the joint detach.[1] Dislocations should not be confused with Subluxation. Subluxation is when the joint is still partially attached to the bone.[2]

When a person has a dislocated jaw it is difficult to open and close the mouth.[3] Dislocation can occur following a series of events if the jaw locks while open or unable to close. If the jaw is dislocated, it may cause an extreme headache or inability to concentrate. When the muscle's alignment is out of sync, a pain will occur due to unwanted rotation of the jaw.[4]

If the pain remains constant, it may require surgery to realign the jaw.[5] Depending on the severity of the jaw's dislocation, pain relief such as paracetamol may assist to alleviate the initial chronic pain. If the pain relief is taken for an extended period of time, it may negatively affect the person while talking, eating, drinking, etc.

    2. Thank you, kind sir. And may I add, that was kind of awesome.

    3. Funny you forgot to mention from dental emergencies:
A fractured jaw or a dislocated jaw are both considered to be very serious dental emergencies. The amount of force necessary to break or dislocate a persons jaw will undoubtedly cause significant trauma, and possibly other serious life-threatening complications.

    4. Not "undoubtedly".... "Probably" like getting shot doesn't "undoubtedly" kill you, it just "probably" will.

    5. But dryden is signifigantly weaker than most people. A dislocated jaw and long fall off a cliff should be fatal.

    6. Ugh. I broke my jaw once when I was about 6. Fell off/let go of a two story building. Funny thing was I landed on my feet, then kneed myself in the face, fracturing my jaw in three places. I recalled wanted to die at the time it hurt so bad. But then I got six months of school. Which was awesome.

    7. Lmao Regless. That info I put wasn't everything there was, just a sample, showing that your aren't "dead" as a given from a dislocated jaw. And also, a dental emergency is not the same thing as life threatening emergency. It *can* be, but in general if you tell someone you have a dental emergency, they're not going to be too worried.

    8. Also, we've passed 108 posts. Since this game is Hentai A La Suikoden... New post from the boss?

    9. Last thing. What time zone you in Regless? And what is your normal schedule from streams? Need to know so I can localize the time and figure out when I can attend.

    10. My time zone is pacific. And stream are at around 4 pm when I do them. Lately it's been just playtesting though. Tomorrows a holiday so I got one more day to get as much as I can done then I'll give you guys an update.

    11. Lol. And now that regless stated that he's broken his, everyone shuts up about it. I love it.

    12. well yeah,...but he didnt recover in time for saving everyone like it happened to dryden...
      you see what i mean?

    13. No. I don't. This is a world were magic exists AND the main character either has it, or at the very least has something very special about him. And as such, and considering that neither of us is the creator, neither of us can make assumtions.

      Delete
    14. Also, Regless BROKE his jaw. Not dislocated. And whether surgery is necessary or not depends on how badly dislocated it is.

      Delete
    15. Plus, once it was in place, the damage from it would get healed from the magical healing/save crystal just like everything else. Remember how his wounds vanished and he "felt better" as soon as he touched it? Except for his finger. I burned him.

      Delete
    16. It* burned him.

This is Regless' way of fixing the damage from the fall. So in actuality, Dryden have anything special about him healing his damage, he just lucked out and didn't outright die from the fall. He woke up after a period of unconsciousness, managed to scrape some stuff together from the dead bodies around him, and managed to trudge a few feet where he found this world's equivalent of Link & Zelda's Fairy Fountains. THEN he saved everyone else. So yeah, moot point. The whole issue was whether or not the fall killed him immediately or not. Not how he got better after.

    17. I HATE not being able to edit... So in actuality, Dryden *doesn't* have anything special...

    18. Also, despite this being a magical/mystical world (not sure yet if it's going to be magic AND spirits, or just spirits) nothing here thus far outside of the healing crystal was unrealistic. The human body is more durable than people think. There are tons of wilderness survival stories where people were climbing a mountain, fell off, hurt themselves, then managed to eke together something to fix themselves enough to find their way back to civilization and professional medical help. People underestimate their durability. This entire debate was born of speculation over whether or not the fall killed him, and then somehow derailed into it (supposedly) being unrealistic of Dryden fixing a simple dislocation. (I'm assuming simple since he was able to fix it without surgery. Meaning HIS was simple, not that all dislocations are.)

    19. Regless broke his jaw and went on a 6 month vacation to heal.

People who break a leg or arm go to school after a couple days with casts.

      Are you even registering this?

Let regless speak and stop making such walls of text cloud format your post with the occassional empty line.

      Delete
    20. Are you registering the difference between a *break* and a *dislocation*? And I am not stopping Regless from speaking, so asking me to "let" him speak is just ridiculous.

      Delete
    21. Oh and before I forget, people who take time off for those *breaks* you mentioned, don't have the mystical healing crystal just one or two rooms away that Dryden did. A dislocated jaw, or even a *broken* one wouldn't stop him from getting two rooms away, or these people would never make it to a doctor.

    22. This is why I wish I could edit.... so I don't have multiple posts when I think of something else to say, I could just add to the previous.

I almost always space my text out, as multiple previous posts on this page (let alone various others) can attest to. A one time mistake is not enough for you to try and "teach" me how to post. Save your pseudo-lessons for people who need them.

  25. Yeah is there any way I can give you guys the ability to edit posts. I'll have to check that out. And it's all good Anon. Cloud wasn't trying to shout over me or whatever you call the written equivilent of that. He was just supplying some more info.

For my part I wasn't trying to make a point either way given I know very little about breaks and such. I was just relating my own experience. To be specific it was a hair-line fracture on either side and one down the middle. No surgery or anything, just 24 stitches. White Sport gave me a free ice cream sunday that was frozen solid. I couldn't eat it for 3 weeks. Was still good. XD.

    1. Damn. You got that long off for a hairline fracture? Sweet! Although based on the pain you had to deal with, what would you choose? The 6 month vacation, or a mystical crystal to fix it all in one go? Personally I'd take the crystal.

    2. Also, for the post where I "shouted" over Regless, I didn't. Wasn't even talking to him except for the lmao... I figured the fact that by my wording I made it obvious that I was contesting what "Anon" said. I guess I overestimated Anon actually thinking about what I said instead of just reading and assuming.

But yes, as Regless said, I was just adding more information. That's entire purpose of any debate I have. Shine light on the truth, either from me, or from others actually proving me wrong, which helps me to learn. Unfortunately, most people don't do logical arguments, they go by what they "believe" or "feel" and allow their emotions to color the facts.
