News and Updates
So some of you have seen me working on new tools in the stream but there seems to be some confusion as to what the tools are actually for. It would be great if I could use them with RPGMaker, but sadly that is not the case. The tools I'm making are in no way compatible with RPGmaker and in fact don't even use the same coding language. They for something else, Something that I intend to actually make money off of eventually if I can actually get it working.
However it is true that a number of characters already have facesets and/or charsets and a couple already have battlers as some of you found in the graphics folder. Also I won't be redoing nearly every single art asset like I ended up doing last time. For now though. I'm enjoying catching up on games, making some wicked tools, and a bit of bug fixing as a nice way to relax.
As for when exactly I'm going to be getting back to work on this stuff. probably not until next year. And I'll be looking to bring some help on board for the writing/eventing. I'm going to include this info in the main post so everyone will see it.

Fixed in V1.17
-Fixed a bug that caused crashing in Fai's shack.
-Fixed a bug that caused fighting skeletons in the town checkpoint to crash the game.
-fixed a bug that caused you to be unable to turn into the Bone Spirit after getting the wind spirit.
-Tons of spelling mistakes. Don't think I ot all of them yet though.

Have you considered starting a forum for this? It would probably be much easier to oversee all the bugs and things if they were each a separate topic, both for you and for people reporting bugs to see what has already been reported. Maybe an idea for Chapter 2?
ReplyDeleteStarting a forum would probably be more work than it's worth. Most forums have at least one active mod along with the admin.
DeleteOften times things just pop up out of nowhere and force the admin to take time to fix it.
Considering that chapter 2 will probably be another 3 or so years (happy estimate) to complete. A forum would just be a waste of time IMO.
If Reg was planing to make this his day job, then that would be a different story.
Ch 2 will be faster cos reg worked on a new program that will speed stuff up also work on ch 2 started while he worked on Ch 1

Hey Regless, I know all the bugs are not gone, but when you say, "work," do you mean the next chapter, or the overall game? Sorry, but I had trouble understanding the post on the main page.

During Eat Me! quest, after visiting the tree in the north and going to the save crystal located in the route to Fai's house I get a 292 error.
After Regless steals the necklace, if you go to the spring near Fai's house Fai will be in the spring and in your party at the same time.
Just under the Blight Woods zone and to the east there is tile that obscures Dryden when passing through it.

Another 292 after finishing the quest Bite Back, saving, then leaving and going near the crystal I get it. 249 if after loading I press the up key.
Suggestions for crafting: could we see how many of the craftable items we have in our inventory and what stats the resulting item will have?
After talking to Lady Yin and getting the armor back the door the leads to the shrines is still locked, I have to go through the front door and back in for it to unlock.
Shouldn't the quest Leia's Big Bang be in the Love category? And Runaway Mushroom not be?
Ryo's door is still in the inventory even after it's placed on his house.
DeleteThere are some harvest points in the Blight Woods that aren't reset when reentering: the plant in the top left corner of the zone that led to Regless, the one you need a secret passage to reach; same zone, but in the top right corner, also a plant; the rock in the area Ryo was located.

ReplyDeleteTo get the wind spirit you need to get a rope in Fort Shale when coming back from the infernal site and enter the well inside the burning town. There's no place to auto-update AFAIK, this is the best place to keep up-to-date by re-downloading every time Regless posts a new one, and no it's not possible to beat Lady Yin yet. The breakable wall is part of a quest called "Prove it", you can get it by going to the bone shrine ALONE after the villagers are drafted into working in the infernal site.

So i can a bit of coding here and there and i could find a mod or 2, And i am sure there's someone here who would be interested in that, but i won't do anything unless you give me an okey go for it sign regless, also if Regless want to live on htis game becoming a patreon member or whatever its needed they could pay on that site and he could set up milestone's, like 20.000 i start working full time leaving job or like 5k milestons month i hire someone or something like that and i am pretty sure that if https://www.patreon.com/lawina?ty=h and https://www.patreon.com/sadinsfwgames?ty=h can get good money on that site i am very sure regless would surpass them even if they joined forces. *smile*

Regless, would it help if I fix the typos on my copy and send you whichever file has the updated script along with a changelog and the previous version? I'm starting to feel bad from being a huge source of the typos without fixing any.

DeleteOne last note, the random 292 crashes that occur on my computer do not seem to occur in the Playtest option for RPG Maker VX (the product itself), they only happen when the Game.exe in the BoneHead folder itself is run. Tested with a save that I know crashes the game within seconds of loading it, but I don't have previous version saves to work with at the moment.
DeleteJust saw your updated post, and I'd be happy to offer my assistance for scripting and writing though I do have some questions regarding them. In regards to scripting, will BoneHead stay on RPG Maker VX or will it be made using the new tools you are developing? I would be able to make scripts similar to the ones used in Chapter 1 without too much trouble, but I'd need firsthand experience with your new tools in order to say anything definite regarding them. As for writing, do you mean helping with the editing and proofreading of the script? If so, I can go through the script much faster with direct access to it, instead of checking every event/character/item manually while playing the game. Anyway, enjoy your break until the new year Regless, you've earned it with this gem of a chapter for BoneHead and the quick bug fixes immediately after :)

DeleteMy only issue thus far is the level up crystal under the Jail. I'm guessing the fire spirit or different sequence of switches. If you could get back on that Regless that would be appreciated.
Ok, on the subject of the Mom romance...why the hell would she have ANYthing to do with the "bone spirit" if she thinks it killed her husband? It's a dark twist and an interesting one to be sure but it and Kuga killing Dryden's father came out of left field and almost spiteful.
DeleteI got the level up crystal in the jail by entering the dungeon from Codachi's cell when coming back from the infernal site, during a private action even. On the subject of the mom romance it will probably be clarified that the bone spirit is not the culrupit, Lady Yin is most surely still alive and can vouch for him just like the other party members. Kuga killling Dryden's father kinda makes sense from his own twisted point of view, that he wants him to hurry back to the paper mansion but the stuff he has to do for his family and friends are keeping him busy, so by eliminating them he will have no more distractions.

DeleteAs for the Mom, fair point, can even see someone point out, "What would you expect a bone spirit to be able to do in regards to someone in your husband's position? A merciful death would be the best one could hope for." that would be incredibly guilt inducing but fit the internal logic.She could even start the process herself and notice the wounds not matching the "bone spirit's" claws next time she sees him. I mostly wrote that tired and shocked by the event itself, which is fair considering it was supposed to be shocking I am sure.
As for Kuga, i was just saying I didn't see it coming and it felt like a spiteful thing to do because Dryden wasn't hustling enough for Kuga. However, this will teach Dryden the dangers of making deals without conditions with spirits I'm sure.
While on that subject, nice job Regless with making Toshi's "defection" to the Empire seem ambiguous as to his motives. On the one hand, he could just be a little jackass throwing away his family having no further use for them and tired of being the odd one out. On the other, could be he's tired of being helpless to do anything with the limited resources of a small town and decided to take the out while he could.
Did the exact same thing you say you did, went through in a private action and I still get the "gonna be trouble text."
DeleteI got the level up crystal in the dungeon not during a private action, you have to play with the switches. I'm not 100% sure but I think you have to flip them in such a way that entering through the other ways except Yin's cell are blocked.

DeleteI discovered a bug. If you use the dryden skill in the fight with Lady Yin after the prolouge is over instead of Dryden sprite you walk around as the bone spirit.
ReplyDeleteI'm stuck due to a quest not updating. I've recued Lady Yin from the Fort but the *next step* on the quest "The Ice Princess" is "Gather your friend and proceed to the Shale Fort"... Since the quest didn't update, I have no idea where to go next. I've gone to the Miko's Temple, various places in town, and Fai's house but nothing triggered.

At the very least, can someone tell me at what point I should see an update in the quest? I've tried restarting this quest a couple times with no update but I'm not sure I've gone far enough into it. On the other hand, I really don't want to spend a couple hours to find out I should have stopped 10 minutes in. (The Under Prison has a bad frame rate for me on my mini-laptop so I move SLOW in that dungeon.)
DeleteBug report. I went back to an old save upon discovering I missed the quest "prove it." completed said quest and dropped off Fai at her house afterwards to get the picture and Eir's romance. Bug is that when I try to pick Fai up again and she goes "O-okay, this better not be a trick." and both she and Dryden's sprites disappear and she doesn't turn up in the formation either. Also, once you leave and reenter the house after that, Fai's sprite appears again but you can walk through/over her (*dryden's voice* only time that's possible.)
ReplyDeleteHey man, I love your game and all, and I hate to be a wet blanket, but you really, really, REALLY need to do something about mobs during cutscenes. I lost to Fai in the cave, and about 2 windows of dialogue later one of the scorpions i had run past attacked and killed me.
ReplyDeleteThis is also occurs with the skeletons during the cut to Rio and Regless talking. And it isn't a cutscene, but I got killed by wandering Cocatrice mobs after the mountain mines while talking to some npc. I had neglected to heal so thats partially on me, but still, its anoying to have to watch out for that sort of thing..
This happens with other games to. I'm fairly sure its a rpgmaker problem. there might be a script to stop it.
Deletethe solution is pretty simple if my memory is correct, just make an impassible event that triggers in certain circumstances like a switch triggering, this should block off anything on the other side. for lager areas you need more events spread out to block a wider path.

ReplyDeleteIt's the game. The save system is kind of finicky with all the other scripts and events. Unfortunately the only solution I've found for that is to remove the save system and add a bunch of empty events everywhere. (I'm assuming your referring the 292 errors which is the engine looking for a trigger that doesn't exist for some reason and can't handle a null value)
DeleteThere a couple of bugs still in effect in this release. In the cave after the beermine, but before you enter Kuro's castle proper, the first time you use the savepoint brings the original 'glowy' save crystal event up. In the Infernal Site, in the area just before the smithy, the left Ronin doesn't beome a corpse after you kill him. In the 'wake-up' event immediately after Lady Yin fights Jade with Ifrit, Ryo walks through a wall; in a related matter, he walks through the save crystal after you help Comanchi 'recharge'. A locked door in Kuro's castle has Dryden talking about how he's tried to open it before, but it was the first time Dryden had ever been inside the castle. During Regless' conversation with Ryo in the burning town, a battle started with the closest skeleton, event continued as planned after battle was over.

DeleteAs was already said by somebody on this very page... Regless can't be killed (a bit of megalomania by the author perhaps :) ), you need to think outside the box...i.e.: SPOILER: you need to use your steal skill to get the pendant and then the fight will stop.

DeleteIf you're still in the mine, go to the place with the firewall that Codachi said she was too weak to put out. Yin will put it out and lead you out of the cave.

ReplyDeleteOK, so I see that people here are pretty knowledgeable about this game; so much so that some of the quests and characters you mention are unkown to me despite having finished chapter one ("The Backdoor", Eri, female Regless...).
ReplyDeleteNow I know that part of the fun is discovering secrets on your own but I seriously think that a detailled wailkthrough or wiki should be set up for this game (which is so good it should be on patreon, btw).

Recently started, just formed the party to chase the thief, left Fai at her house to see what would happen, went to leave and it reverted back to the "I thought we were going to ditch Fai" from the gathering bit (I assume that's what it's locked to) and moved me back towards the house.

Wow this game is great but such a bug and crash fest... If the author was on Patreon, he might have enough cash to hire a programmer/debugger and concentrate on art and plot. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteNot the first person to mention that, however most the money would go to paying people who scripts and assets I use. I can use them for free, but if I make money I have to pay the people who made it possible first. Then there's the stuff that's not so easy to get permission for... Worse case scenario I'd end up have to remake a lot of stuff again.

DeleteAfter the drafting of the families and Yin whenever I craft the Poison Claws and try to save I crash. Unsure if they are connected but in the off-chance it is here's a report.

ReplyDeleteI'm in the room with Yin and the wounded soldier just before Regless boss fight. I have Fai and Ryo with me and I let Leila to take care of the wounded soldier with Yin.
There a crystal in the same room, so I saved here.
After get my ass kicked 3/4 times against Regless, I finally ragequit.
I restarted the game 2/3 days later. Load my save and get in the game. I notice that my teamate wasn't full life so I check the crystal again for healing, and then...

Retry 2 time the same thing, crashed.
I try to not touch the crystal first, leave the room and come back. I check the crystal and this time it work. So leaving the room make me able to correct the error.
Even if i figured how to manage to avoid the crash, and let you know of it.

ReplyDeleteThat been said... I've killed the bear in First Hunt quest and Fai left the party right after it. Now she don't want to come back in the party saying I should hang out with Leia instead. I've tried to talk to her without Leiai but she keep saying the same thing. The problem is, without Fai, I can't pass the checkpoint. Dryden insist I bring everyone. So yeah... can't move on.
Well, I finally have some time off coming, so get ready for another long list of spelling/grammar/etc Regless!

ReplyDeleteYou get the antidote recipe twice in the Blight Woods. Well, the code shows you getting two different recipes, but the text says Antidote both times. One is in the room with lady Yin, another is in a hidden chest if I recall. One of those small one room maps.

DeleteEh, fair point. I'd rather focus on the many potential plot threads chapter 1 was seasoned with. We have literally met all 4 factions both good and bad, thus giving the MC and the players reasons to like or dislike them keeping the choices on who to go with entirely up to the same.

Umm...after I finished "The First Hunt" quest. Fia left and wouldn't rejoin,even after I reached the fort.
ReplyDeleteAlso "The Ice Princess" quest even though I finished the infernal area that one was still unfinished. (Gather up your party and go to Fort Slane(?) it had it's secondary task completed but not the prerequisite.
If I'm not mistaken, he said he would remove that entire plotline in the next version simply because so many people were having issues with that bear quest..

After downloading the game, for some reason the text in my main menu don't appear. same goes with inventory and when I try to use items or skills in battle. I thought something just went wrong when I downloaded it so I re-downloaded it but it still has the same problem. does anyone know what to do? btw, it isn't because I don't have the font, I checked and it's there.

ReplyDeleteHey, everyone. I found the game a few days ago and gave it a try. After countless crashes and somewhere in middle of ch 1 (just entered town on fire), I decided to look into it with RPG maker (despite no knowledge about it). While I still don't know anything about what causes my crushes (I think it has to do with smithing), I found quite a few things that I missed. One thing that I can't crack is Lady Yin talk in her room, after getting armor back. I assume from text that it should change after "prove it" quest (0208:innocence proven == ON switch). But it remans the same and I can't find this switch anywhere else in game. Can anyone help me?

I want to thank your for the beautiful artwork and intriguing story; definitely want to mimic others who say this game needs a wiki/walkthrough. Finding help/hints is really hard for this game and I'm usually pretty good at finding them. I stopped after entering the cave (a little ways in actually) to go save the townsfolk at the fort. The balance is to lopsided for me and trying to figure out puzzles while dealing with respawning mobs that hit for a lot of damage, eat up the "I had to grind to buy these potions", and generally tear up my weaker team members (I'm looking at you four-eyes) was my challenge limit. I was really wishing for a healer after about an hour in those caves. I really do love the artwork and this game has huge potential; I wish you well with it. -cheers

DeleteI'm stuck in Fort Slane's Jail, I have rescued yin but cant go any further. The grill in the next cell has not interaction, the cells door is guarded and Codachi's cell door is locked (yin wont cut it open...). There is the chest surrounded by fire on 3 sides but can't find a switch to get past it or the one blocking access to the powered&crystal. (Version BoneheadV0.1.17)
